Realty Investment Corporation, has offices in PA, NJ, and Florida. We practice Commercial

Below I explain the "Sheetflow" and radical annual fluctuations in the water table in Corkscrew
Sanctuary.
 
Extremes can be extremely nice
 The water levels can range 8 ft.annually

 

 

 

      Sometimes the change is good in that we are ready for each season to be over regardless

 

of which. That fluctuation is my biggest challange to portray to you. The area is beautiful and

 

exciting but that explaining seasonal sheet flow of storm waters from north to south is part of

 

the entire southern third of Florida is quite undertaking. That unique flow of water south that

 

will eventually empty into the everglades makes our area like no other. As the water levels change

 

 nature rotates her tenants for comfort. The short legged guys who have enjoyed the swamp dry

 

 leave for higher ground and necessity brings in wader birds, and wetland life. As the water levels

 

 receed the group with the most flexibility moves in for the new opportunities like wild boar feeding

 

 on crawdads in soon to be dry mudflats and new emerging grass for the deer and turkey. When the

 

 drought is in control the pond is the only water for many acres and all are drawn to the small bit of water

 

 available. finally when the pond is shallow  the waders will thin the fish population who have no where to

 

 hide, like fish in a barrel. 


 The water at a perfect level is what most would prefer.
         The house being set 900 feet back from the road makes it private. The lots 658 foot of depth and 330 feet of width provides some great long views of natural beauty. Since the clearing process was by hand to a large degree the landscape is 98% naturally occuring,mostly fireproof,drought resistant , and the native palms on the farm are frost resistant. Not only beautiful but very durable and low maintanance. It still requires mowing but no irrigation and limited trim work for some of the exotics. 

But I have come to anticipate the floods with joy.
        When our home is in the sheet flow we are an island in natures water park. After many years I know the array of nature I see in the late summer months is going to be like T.V. but it will be the big window in the living room I will be watching. Sand hill cranes and pink spoonbills,wood stork,wild turkey,great blue heron,osprey,eagle,fisherking,eastern bluebird,alligator,wild boar, black bear,whitetail deer, all totally unaware of me watching them.
